Personal Quote: eye for an eye will make the whole world blind
two drops of oil
Tue Nov 18, 2008, 5:33 AM
And so the tale tells, that a young man was sent by his father to the palace of the wisest king of the land so he would learn and become wise himself. Upon his arrival, the king gave him a spoon with 2 drops of oil, and explained that these drops were extremely important and he should be responsible and never let them fall from the spoon. After that, he invited the young man to go and admire the beautiful paintings, sculptures, carpets and other wonders of the palace. When he finished his walk, the king asked him what he thought of the palace, and so the young man explained he was so busy caring for the 2 drops of oil that he hadn't really appreciated anything. So the king sent him off again advising him to admire and enjoy the greatnes of the palace. After a while, the young man came back fascinated with the great beauty of the palace. When the king asked him about the 2 drops of oil, the young man realised that he had been too amazed to care for them, and they had fallen from the spoon. 'Well young man, that's the secret of a happy life' said the king 'to be able to admire and enjoy the wonders of life, without ever droping the 2 important drops of oil'
So its all about finding the right balance, this is one of my favourite tales from 'The Alchemist' by Paolo Coelho, a magical book that everyone should read.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses,
And all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty together again.
